topic 8 Webquests

Oops! forgot to title my last post.
I enjoyed learning about webquests. I had no idea what they were so it was very informative. I think it would be very exciting to do these in your classroom. I would need to do more research on them, but I am having fun getting ideas for lessons.
I did learn about the three different kinds of webquests. Project based, problem based, and inquiry based learning. It seems that there many many things to learn about webquests.

Topic 7 copyright

Taking the copyright quiz was a big help. It made me realize that I need to review it a little more. I guess I did ok on most of it, but their were a couple that I didn't know. Knowing the copyright laws is important.

Topic 6 Power point

Creating power points to use as mini lessons as well as other things is a lot of fun. There are so many things that can be done now on the power point program, that each new one created could be different from the last. I think the kids would enjoy seeing what new things you came up with each time you made one. It would also increase their interest in wanting to make their own. I know I had a lot of fun playing around with it when our group made ours for the project.

Topic 5 YETC

I think that YETC and the other sources that are available are a great tool for teachers. I went in and played around for a while and I was amazed at all that I found. There are not only lesson plans, but printable materials for use, CD rom programs, text books, and different fonts and clip art that are available. Plus much much more. A person could explore for hours. This is a great resource to remember for the future.

Lesson Plan 1

I have been having a hard time concentrating long enough to get this assignment done, but I think I finally have it. There's nothing like last minute. I chose to do a lesson for 2nd grade on life cycles of butterflies. One of the sites that I visited is called the incredible journey of the butterflies. It is set up to view in six sections, but it shows the different "journeys" of the butterfly. I thought it was really cool and thought the kids would really enjoy it too. Here is the site, www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/butterflies/program.html
I enjoyed trying to find fun sites for the kids. I visited quite a few and discovered which ones would teach them anything, and which ones were just boring. I had a lot of fun doing this assignment.

Blogs topic 3

I am slowly figuring out how to blog. At first I was a little nervous, but now that I have posted a few blogs it doesn't seem so bad. In fact, this blogging could get a little addictive. It's kinda fun seeing what everyone has done with their site and seeing what they are writing.

Todays Students topic 1

The video for Todays students was very enlightening. I didn't realize that there was such a controvesy about technology in todays classrooms. It made me realize what needs to be done in order to be a successful teacher. We as future educators need to change and progress with the world and the children. We can't expect that todays children are just like we were, we should expect that they would be different because theirs is a different world than ours was.

Topic 2 UEN

I think that the UEN website is a great resource for teachers. I like the idea about a site where parents can go to keep up to date with what is going on in the calssroom. This keeps the parents involved and helps the kids in the process. The UEN site will be very useful for finding examples of lesson plans, and keeping up to date with any news that might be important as a teacher. I think that it is a great resource and plan on using it in the future.
