Lesson Plans (2)

I really emjoyed listening to everyones ideas and lesson plans. It gave me many ideas to use and implement in my own class someday. The different uses of technology that people chose were very creative. I hope everyone has a chance to use all these ideas one day. One good idea for future classes would be a file that the class has access to and that has everyones lesson plans in it so others could use them as well.

Wikis and Podcasts

I have also used podcasts in the Sped class. They are a neat tool that allows you to watch something on your own time. I didn't know itunes had them for free, and that there were so many of them available. This is something I am going to check out more thouroughly.
I knew a little about wikis, but not to the extent of what we learned in class. I knew they were sites that all or some peolple could add to and change, but I had only seen them as an informational source. They way we used them in class was way cool!

Web Site Evaluation

For this assignment I used three different evaluation sheets. I had a hard time finding all of the forms, and sometimes I would find them but I couldn't fill them out after they were saved. So anyway, I only used 3. I used Schrock's, the ncsu one, and bvn one. The one I liked the most was Schrock's because it was easiest to use and navigate. The value of doing a website evaluation is that it helps you know if it is a trusted resource. If you can't find the author of a site and a copyright or date, then how do you know the information is true?

Topic 10 spread sheets

Spread sheets are a good way to stay organized and stay on top of things. We visited one site ( I can't remember the name) that had lots of neat things. There were many ways to keep the whole school working together and keeping up on all that is going on. You could do conference calls, polls, and share ideas with each other. Anyway, spread sheets are one of the things that I am going to try to use and become way more familiar with.

Topic 9 Word Processing

Working with the Google doc was fun because we are all at different sites, yet we all worked on the same document. It was interesting searching through the word processing sites and seeing all the different things there are available to use in the classroom. We created our own story by filling in the blanks on the wacky web tales page. We had a lot of fun. We also did puzzles of animals on the discovery page, it was a fun site to visit. Using word processing in the classroom has endless possibilities and many many opportunities for fun and learning all at the same time.

Topic 12 Digital Photography

I thought this class was so much fun. I loved learning all the cool tricks about touching up my photo's. I will definitely use this in the future, and think it will be fun. I like making scrapbook pages and I think the collage button will make a fun tool to use on some of them. I would also like to post one of my pictures on my blog too. The Picasa was so easy to use, and the fact that it is free is just another added benefit. Too cool!!

topic 8 Webquests

Oops! forgot to title my last post.
I enjoyed learning about webquests. I had no idea what they were so it was very informative. I think it would be very exciting to do these in your classroom. I would need to do more research on them, but I am having fun getting ideas for lessons.
I did learn about the three different kinds of webquests. Project based, problem based, and inquiry based learning. It seems that there many many things to learn about webquests.

Topic 7 copyright

Taking the copyright quiz was a big help. It made me realize that I need to review it a little more. I guess I did ok on most of it, but their were a couple that I didn't know. Knowing the copyright laws is important.

Topic 6 Power point

Creating power points to use as mini lessons as well as other things is a lot of fun. There are so many things that can be done now on the power point program, that each new one created could be different from the last. I think the kids would enjoy seeing what new things you came up with each time you made one. It would also increase their interest in wanting to make their own. I know I had a lot of fun playing around with it when our group made ours for the project.

Topic 5 YETC

I think that YETC and the other sources that are available are a great tool for teachers. I went in and played around for a while and I was amazed at all that I found. There are not only lesson plans, but printable materials for use, CD rom programs, text books, and different fonts and clip art that are available. Plus much much more. A person could explore for hours. This is a great resource to remember for the future.

Lesson Plan 1

I have been having a hard time concentrating long enough to get this assignment done, but I think I finally have it. There's nothing like last minute. I chose to do a lesson for 2nd grade on life cycles of butterflies. One of the sites that I visited is called the incredible journey of the butterflies. It is set up to view in six sections, but it shows the different "journeys" of the butterfly. I thought it was really cool and thought the kids would really enjoy it too. Here is the site, www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/butterflies/program.html
I enjoyed trying to find fun sites for the kids. I visited quite a few and discovered which ones would teach them anything, and which ones were just boring. I had a lot of fun doing this assignment.

Blogs topic 3

I am slowly figuring out how to blog. At first I was a little nervous, but now that I have posted a few blogs it doesn't seem so bad. In fact, this blogging could get a little addictive. It's kinda fun seeing what everyone has done with their site and seeing what they are writing.

Todays Students topic 1

The video for Todays students was very enlightening. I didn't realize that there was such a controvesy about technology in todays classrooms. It made me realize what needs to be done in order to be a successful teacher. We as future educators need to change and progress with the world and the children. We can't expect that todays children are just like we were, we should expect that they would be different because theirs is a different world than ours was.

Topic 2 UEN

I think that the UEN website is a great resource for teachers. I like the idea about a site where parents can go to keep up to date with what is going on in the calssroom. This keeps the parents involved and helps the kids in the process. The UEN site will be very useful for finding examples of lesson plans, and keeping up to date with any news that might be important as a teacher. I think that it is a great resource and plan on using it in the future.
